DANCE OF THE SEMAPHORE

Mito-Mother is a performance installation surrounding motherhood, genetics, and care. Represented are different renderings of Humanin, a peptide encoded in the mitochondrial genome by the 16S ribosomal RNA gene, MT-RNR2, which has neuroprotective properties. During the performance, a humanin shaped hole in a performers shirt is sewn into place as the other uses a mirror to watch the work being done.
